OVERVIEW - The System

Early Times December 2008
My model railway is a MÄRKLIN H0.
At first time I used Metal-Track. But it was loud and not contact stable. Now I use mainly C-Track. The Locomotivs I bought as used. Some of them are older than 30 years. They are all canged into digital. My digital controller is a TAMS Easy Control. The software is a freeware made by dutch and german guys. It's name is ROCRAIL. It's as good as a profesional software what costs you between 400€ and 600€. They only expect to get a 10€ donation per year. It's for the Internetpages and hardware tests.
The computer. An old 486 ist fast enough. I use a Pentium 1200. The Graphic-Card could have more pixel. And I could need a better monitor.

By the way:

ROCRAIL is usable with all computer-systems - Windows, Linux, and Apple. The leading documentation language is english. You can download it here:

https://launchpad.net/rocrail/+download

and here is the documentation :
http://wiki.rocrail.net/doku.php

In the documentation you'll find a forum. If you have a question, something isn't working. Ask here! An answer could be found sometimes in the same evening.

LOC-DECODER - cheap could be good, but not every time

There are many manufactures they made many decoders. And a locomotion is not a locomotion is not a locomotion. Want to say, you can put decoder in a steamlok BR03 and it runs very good and you have an other BR03 , you put the same decoder in and it's awful. So you try a decoder from other manufactur and it is okay. The first time I used decoders from TAMS. They're cheap. But the cheap ones have not fuses. So they breathe out live quick and cheap changes to expensive. So I came to ESU. The decoders from ESU are all fused. Additionally some loks running more smooth and extremly slow.
An other experience is, don't use AC-decoders. It looks easier because the coil set on his place but it's not comparable to a lok what is changed into DC. I had a E10. It wasn't running under step 5 and makes strange noises befor and during it runs. I removed the coil put in a special magnet and gave it a ESU-decoder - no comparsion!

Note:
Decoder prices in 2011

TAMS-deoder 14€ - 24€
ESU-decoder  20€ - 26€ - no sound     A sounddecoder cost 115€

Märklin Catalogs Available

Sometimes it is necessary to look in an old catalog. May be to know what is the number of locomotion you bought. Or you need some of the accessories - may be a bulb is gone.

I am the owner of this MÄRKLIN-CATALOGS:
1961/62, 1962/63, 1965/66, 1966/67 and 1970 - 1985/86

I've scanned them. So if you need one, send me a mail - in Gästebuch (it's Guestbook), I send the catalog as a .zip or .rar. But remember, I live in Germany, so they are in german. But it dosn't matter the numbers in all catalogs in the world are the same!
